  12.     F. HEINZ Consultora announces the availability of version 3.5.5
  13.     of Dots, the printer driver for non-PostScript printers under
  14.     NEXTSTEP. This version features support for the Epson Stylus and
  15.     Epson Stylus Color printers, as well as enhanced suport for other
  16.     ESC/P2 printers and minor bug fixes. The multi-architecture
  17.     program for Motorola and Intel hardware and sample files may be

  30.                         Welcome to Dots 3.5.5

  32.     Dots is a printer driver for bitmap printers under NeXTSTEP. It
  33.     supports a wide range of printers of different technologies,
  34.     including impact dot matrix, ink-jet, laser printers and dye
  35.     sublimation printers.
  36.  
  37.     Dots supports all standard paper formats and even non-standard
  38.     ones, as long as they make sense on your printer. Depending on
  39.     your printer's capabilities, more than one resolution may be
  40.     available. Of course, the printout pages come out of the printer
  41.     in the right order, and thanks to NeXT's unified imaging model,
  42.     Dots  works with all applications, and produces the best-quality
  43.     graphics your printer is capable of putting on paper.

  45.     Installing and configuring printers for use with Dots is a simple
  46.     matter of point-and-click. You can export printers to a NetInfo
  47.     domain, and modify a printer's configuration at any time.

  49.     Dots is seamlessly integrated into the NeXTSTEP environment,
  50.     allowing you to print on any one of the supported printers using
  51.     the standard Print panel and its Options subpanel.

  53.     In addition to the standard NeXTSTEP configuration and print
  54.     options, Dots offers an alternate interface to provide fine
  55.     control over print job parameters and in particular
  56.     printer-specific features though feature inspectors that pop up
  57.     immediately before the document starts printing.

  59.     For those "printers" that happen to be copiers, Dots supports
  60.     scanning as well, allowing you to exploit the device's full
  61.     potential.

  101.     Dots  will drive any and all of the above printers. Just plug it
  102.     to the computer, create a Dots  printer for it, and you are set.
  103.     By default, Dots  will drive the printer in demo mode. Demo mode
  104.     means that Dots will work just as usual, but it will print a
  105.     diagonal line over each page, and a banner at its bottom.

  107.     To get the printer to work in regular mode, you must purchase a
  108.     License ID for it, which you can get from your NEXTSTEP software
  109.     dealer, or from one of the addresses listed under the heading
  110.     "Purchase information" in the on-line help. A License ID entitles
  111.     you to use Dots  to drive one printer, you will need a separate
  112.     License ID for each printer you want to use, even if more than one
  113.     is of the same type.
